Ontario Signage Guidelines

Wayfinding & Accessibility

The Ontario Signage Guidelines (OSG) act as a starting point for the larger conversation on accessible design and wayfinding across all of Ontario. The goals laid out in the OSG are to help reduce research, development and insulation costs associated with creating accessible wayfinding systems in Ontario. By condensing a wide knowledge base of accessible guides and information from multiple federal and provincial accessibility organizations into a small package, it allows any city in Ontario to have access to pre-designed signage and a development toolkit the centers accessibility at the core of the design process. The final product is a handy manual that breaks down wayfinding network creation into 3 easy to understand sections, Introduction and Training, Sign Planning and the Design System. Each section dives deep into the basics like planning, naming, colour and placement to ensure that anyone in Ontario can have a consistently accessible experience.
